Colours of the desert bandhani stole: warm sands.

Made in the desert state of Gujarat. Hand knotted silk stoles. each knot is made by tying the fabric with string, dipping in colour, then drying out. sometimes three-four colours are used. Women tie knots while gossiping in groups, adding their secrets to these lovely stoles. The knots are later untangled to reveal the area that is not dyed. Beautiful and intricate geometric patterns emerge when the knots are untied. The whole family is involved in making this garment, with the men dying fabric and women stringing the knots. Some women can tie up to 700 knots in a day, while a metre of fabric can have thousands of tiny knots. Because each knot retains its shape, a magical texture of ups and downs makes the stole a very layered garment. Beautiful to pair with any outfit to make it smart and dressy. Note: these are stretchable - because of the tie and dye process, the fabric becomes compressed, and can be smoothed out to make it bigger. However, it is better to leave it as is, and we do not recommend ironing. Dry clean or hand wash only.
